The mission of EcoArt South Florida is to encourage ecological health and decrease negative human impact through the rapid expansion of EcoArt in each of South Florida’s five watersheds. EcoArt SoFla implements our goal to catalyze the development of South Florida as a major center for EcoArt practice through collaboration with communities in each watershed. We assist these communities to:
- Address EcoArt in their public policies
- Identify opportunities for site-specific EcoArt projects; match EcoArtists with opportunities
- Organize EcoArt educational forums and symposia
- Develop EcoArt film series and exhibitions
- Institute ongoing visiting master EcoArtist residency programs and local artist apprenticeships
From 2009-2011, EcoArt South Florida piloted a model community EcoArt education and artist apprenticeship for this purpose, in collaboration with the Arts Council of Martin County. The pilot, EcoArt Treasure Coast, which trained five Treasure Coast artists, was funded by the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties, the Florida State Division of Cultural Affairs and private donors.
